Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a relatively new trekking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal, which has gained popularity among trekkers due to its pristine and untouched natural beauty. The trek takes you through lush forests, picturesque villages, and rugged mountain terrain, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks.
The highlight of the trek is the Mardi Himal Base Camp, which sits at an altitude of 4,500 meters, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the Annapurna range, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal itself.
Trekking Route and Difficulty
The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek starts from Kande, a small village located about an hour's drive from Pokhara. From there, the trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, charming Gurung villages, and steep ridges, gradually gaining altitude as it approaches the base camp.
Although the trek is considered moderate in difficulty, it requires a good level of fitness and stamina, as well as some previous trekking experience. Trekkers should be prepared for long days of walking, steep ascents and descents, and changing weather conditions.
Accommodation and Food
During the trek, trekkers can stay in teahouses or lodges run by local families, which offer basic yet comfortable accommodation and warm hospitality. The rooms are usually twin-sharing with common bathrooms and toilets.
The food served in the teahouses is simple but delicious, consisting mainly of Nepali and Tibetan cuisine such as dal bhat (rice and lentil soup), momos (dumplings), and thukpa (noodle soup). Vegetarian options are also available.
Best Time to Trek
The best time to undertake the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (October to early December) seasons, when the weather is clear and dry, and the views are spectacular.
During these months, the trails are also less crowded, allowing trekkers to enjoy the serene beauty of the mountains and forests without any distractions. However, trekkers should be prepared for cold temperatures at higher altitudes, especially during the night.
In conclusion, the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a must-do adventure for anyone seeking a unique and off-the-beaten-path trekking experience in Nepal. With its stunning natural beauty, diverse landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality, this trek is sure to leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul. So pack your bags, put on your hiking shoes, and get ready to embark on a journey of a lifetime!
