This period marks the transition from the harsh winter to a vibrant summer on Bogda Peak. The snow begins to melt, revealing the stunning beauty of blooming snow lotuses. This is an ideal time to experience the majestic transformation of the landscape, from icy slopes to colorful meadows, showcasing the extraordinary resilience of life in this harsh environment.
***Booking Dealine : 60 days from departure date
Bogda Peak is located to the east of Urumqi, with an elevation of 5,445 meters. It is part of the Tian Shan mountain range, one of the youngest mountain ranges in the world, formed three hundred million years ago during mountain-building movements. The main peak, situated south of Heavenly Lake, has three peaks standing side by side, known as the "Snow Sea Three Peaks," covered in snow all year round, creating a spectacular view celebrated by many poets and writers throughout history.
Bogda Peak is known for its steep and unique natural landscapes. From the base to the summit, the scenery changes dramatically, allowing visitors to experience all four seasons in a single day. In July and August, the valley is in full summer bloom, the mid-mountain is lush and green like spring, and the summit is a cold, snowy region. Near the snow line, rare flowers such as snow lotuses and wild poppies grow, demonstrating the miracle of life in harsh conditions.
Despite its moderate elevation, Bogda Peak is extremely challenging to climb, with only the northeast slope being relatively gentle. The first successful ascent was made by a Japanese team from Kyoto in 1981. The peak is characterized by exposed bedrock at the top, snow-covered middle sections, and steep glacial valleys below, making it ideal for small climbing teams. At the foot of the mountain lies Heavenly Lake, which, combined with the snow-capped peaks, makes it a popular destination for climbers and tourists alike.
The unique climate of Bogda Peak creates distinct natural landscapes on its northern and southern slopes. The northern slope features dense forests and alpine meadows, while the southern slope, influenced by arid conditions, lacks a forest belt. The area is home to the rare Apollo butterfly and various wildlife species. The snow-capped peak is rich in resources, including snow leopards, snow chickens, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs, along with mineral deposits such as copper, iron, and mica.
Every July and August, after a season of spring rain, the mountains are covered with wildflowers, lush green grass, grazing cattle and sheep, and rising smoke from shepherds’ fires, creating a picturesque scene as the journey begins with the first light of dawn.

Today's itinerary involves crossing three glaciers, walking entirely on glacier surfaces. The distance is long, and the difficulty level is among the highest of the entire journey.
The good news is that the horses will transport the pre-packaged supplies to Bogda Base Camp. On this day, you'll collect the items needed for the next three days, meaning you can carry only part of the food and clothing needed for the seven-day trip. This way, you won't have to bear the weight of seven days' worth of equipment all at once!
Bogda Base Camp is a treasured spot where Tianshan Snow Lotus blooms abundantly, allowing for leisurely photography and appreciation of the Snow Lotus. In the afternoon, you can witness the breathtaking golden glow of Bogda Snow Mountain at sunset.

A NOVA Leader is required to lead the trip.
Yes, local guides are required. Only local guides have the expertise and familiarity with the area's conditions.
The guide and team members will gather at the designated hotel in Urumqi on the specified meeting date.
We fly to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang.
Currently, there are no direct flights from Malaysia to Urumqi. You will need to fly from Kuala Lumpur to a Chinese city first, and then transfer to a flight to Urumqi.
There are several transfer options in Chinese cities for flights from Kuala Lumpur to Urumqi. NOVA will announce the most cost-effective, best value, and optimal flight options in the activity group three months before departure for your reference and for the guide's flight.
In Urumqi, we will stay in hotel standard rooms, with two people per room. Our first choice is the Shayibake District, close to our outdoor club office in Urumqi.
After arriving in Urumqi, we will take everyone to local markets and shopping malls to purchase breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Yes, there are tent rental services available, with 3-person tents and a limited number of 2-person tents. The tents can be rented in Urumqi.
Yes, sleeping bags can be rented from NOVA. You should pick up the sleeping bag on the departure day or the day of the pre-trip briefing, bring it to Xinjiang, and then return it to NOVA’s office in Malaysia after the trip.
Yes, sleeping pads are available for rent. The entire camping system, including tents and sleeping pads, can be rented.
It depends on the number of participants. If the number is below 10, we will join a team with hikers from China and other countries. If there are 15 or more participants, we will form a separate team exclusively for Malaysian members.
Porter services are not provided, as there are no human porters available for trekking in Xinjiang. Only camels and horses are used for carrying loads, but the Bogda Grand Circuit has two glacial passes that camels and horses cannot cross. Therefore, there is no camel or horse packing service, and participants must carry their own loads for the entire Bogda Grand Circuit trek.
For women, we recommend a backpack weight of 14-16 kg; for men, 16-18 kg.
Yes, there is a sweep team. Each group is equipped with a guide, a support team, and a sweep.
Yes, you will need to set up and pack away the tent yourself throughout the journey.
During the day, temperatures in the mountains range from 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, and at night, they drop below 10 degrees Celsius. If we're lucky, we might even encounter snowfall in Bogda during the summer. On snowy nights, temperatures can plummet to -5 degrees Celsius.
The minimum requirement for a sleeping bag is a G700 or higher, with a temperature rating of -5°C or colder.
Yes, in July and August, you can see the Tianshan snow lotus in full bloom, which is the peak blooming season.
The campsites are located on grassy fields, glaciers, and rocky terrain.
We do not recommend using inflatable sleeping pads because they are prone to punctures from small stones in glacier and rocky campsites, which can lead to deflation. Additionally, they may not effectively block moisture and cold from the ground, affecting your sleep.
No, there is no meal service provided. You will need to prepare and carry your own food for the entire trip.
